MIXER , Eyebeam’s quarterly showcase for audiovisual performance and interactive art, goes back to the future – to the dawn of the imagined internet. MIXER: Past Futures transforms Eyebeam’s vast West Chelsea space into an immersive environment combining video, music, design, and fashion from an era when 16-bit video games, 28k modems, and Roland TB-303s were at the cutting edge of technology and creativity. MIXER: Past Futures evokes the spirit of both early internet theories and its early graphic style, suggesting an alternate version of our own current reality, conjuring what was and what never came to be.

Presenting new performance work by Extreme Animals (Eyebeam Fellow and former Paper Rad member Jacob Ciocci and David Wightman) and DâM-FunK performing a hot live set of electro and boogie funk. About the Artists Extreme Animals Titled, THE EXTREME ANIMALS SIT DOWN: music is a question with no answer , Jacob Ciocci and David Wightman (Extreme Animals, Paper Rad, You Can't Do That on Television) present a mash-up of live music, video, staged theatrics, and global meltdowns. They choreograph a disjunctive array of live shredding, extreme feedback, youtube bombardment, ecstatic dance moves, and sunday morning cartoons. Their newest performance delves into the world of tween culture and the current obsession with the infinite hall of mirrors known as "forever young". Performers sell their soul Paganini-style to become vampires cursed to bleed all over their instruments for all time. Jacob Ciocci is an artist and current Eyebeam Fellow notably regarded as one third of the American art collective Paper Rad; prolific producer of music, installations, websites, and animations. David Wightman is completing a PHD in music composition at UCSD where he is a lecturer of pop music studies. Some of his many music projects include Fortress of Amplitude, Powdered Wigs, and Chariots of Fire. Together Jacob and David form like Voltron in the high-NRG electronic music band Extreme Animals and have toured the country every summer for the past 8 years presenting their music, videos, and art. DâM-FunK Known as Los Angeles' "Ambassador of Boogie Funk," DâM-FunK represents the citizens of the Funkmosphere. Headquartered in the Leimert Park section of L.A., Dãm (pronounced: 'Dame' as in Damon) spent the last few years cultivating a musical renaissance rooted in the early-'80s styles known as Boogie, Modern Soul and Electro-Funk. As a DJ/selector, Dãm attracts the most discerning Boogie Funk afficionados within driving distance of his storied Monday-night Funkmosphere parties. But it's not just collectors at the bar toasting to the melodic sounds. Anyone who grooves to the likes of Slave, Aurra, early Prince, Prelude Records and the like, will get a dose of those groups' unknown contemporaries – more obscure but equally Funk-worthy. The next phase of the Ambassador's mission is his debut album Toeachizown : continuing the classic West Coast tradition into today's scene with Dãm's own original "Modern-Funk" compositions. By plugging in his arsenal of vintage synths and drum machines, Dãm channels the galactic harmonies of his inspiration into his own brand of new boogie. Stones Throw Records' like-minded honcho Peanut Butter Wolf brought Dãm on to the team to glide into the future with his unique, synth and bass-driven vibe. In the aftermath of the 2010 Winter Olympics, Eyebeam will help alleviate the post-Games hangover with its own international athletic spectacular, MIXER: OLYMPIAD. Artists, designers, musicians, engineers, and hackers alike will stage events that evoke the passion, the drive, the danger, and the majesty of competitive sport and mass spectacle. Join one of the five competing nations, and race for Olympic glory!

Named “The New Saturday Night” by New York Magazine (Jan., 16 – 23, 2009), Eyebeam's MIXER series is dedicated to showcasing leading artists in the fields of live video and audio performance, interactivity and participatory practice.

Due to popular demand, MIXER: EXPO was expanded to two nights of performance and installations that turned our rough-and-ready warehouse space into a temporary village of creatively engineered pavilions themed around the idea of utopia. In sum: An alternate “World's Fair” with NYC's top DJs.

This last MIXER for 2008 was unlike any other … No evening art stroll with a glass of sponsored wine, Production Lab fellow David Jimison ( boozBot | Anywhere But Here | Madlib Karaoke) and Paul Amitai (MIXER mastermind) pulled together a crack team of set designers, fashionistas, artists, performers, and of course AMAZING musicians, to create an evening UNDERGROUND .

The Eyebeam warehouse was transformed into an enormous multi-level labyrinth, with tunnels, trap doors, and more.
